A Little Girl's Obsession

When I was a little girl, there was one thing I loved playing more than anything else in the world...dress up. Yes I had an amazing collection of Barbies, a stuffed animal crew to rival them, but nothing compared to the feeling I had when I put on my dress up clothes.

My grandma and mother encouraged my obsession by donating their old dresses to my dress up stash. And if I was really lucky, I might receive a new hand sewn special ensemble for a birthday or Christmas.  But what is it about dressing up that made me as a little girl fill with so much delight? I can only assume it's the same thing I feel to this day as a thirty-eight year old woman.

It's confidence. I know when I'm wearing a dress, I feel put together. I feel as if I can take on the world! I always feel as if I stand out when I wear one and I have always loved that! Perhaps it is an oldest child personality trait, but nonetheless I've always wanted the spotlight. In fact, I truly believe my love for dressing up was one of the reasons I pursued acting after high school. I mean, where else can you play dress up more than in character on stage?
